Rush Center for Excellence in Aging is committed to securing and actively distributing Rabbi Schaalman’s guidance. The films featured here offer an introduction to the Rabbi’s unique life, voice, and presence.

Crossing Boundaries

A short biographic video detailing Rabbi Schaalman’s life, leadership, and impact throughout his 100 years. Original film footage includes his teaching into his 90s, plus personal narratives from family, community leaders, and students filmed at the Chicago History Museum.

Progress Report, 2018

An overview of Schaalman Senior Voices project development, beginning in 2015 when the Rabbi’s students presented him with the idea of capturing his guidance on film. The full film includes footage from the University of Chicago, Chicago Public Libraries, and the Chicago History Museum. This segment features the 2018 Rush University Medical Center CEO, Dr. Larry Goodman, welcoming permanent residence of the project at the Center for Excellence on Aging.
